Quickstart

This walkthrough takes about five minutes. It assumes Branda is installed and the status bar app is running.

1. Create an organization and a brand

branda-cli org create "Acme"
branda-cli brand create "Sparkle" --org "Acme"

Every brand belongs to an organization, so brand commands take --org. You are automatically recorded as the owner of everything you create.

2. Add colors

The quickest way to add a color is the shorthand form — Branda detects the format (hex, RGB, or CMYK) by itself. Without --name, it also names the color after the nearest standard color:

branda-cli asset create "#FF0000" --brand "Sparkle" --org "Acme" # named "Red"
branda-cli asset create "#0A14C8" --name "Primary Blue" --brand "Sparkle" --org "Acme"
branda-cli asset create "20C,40M,60Y,10K" --name "Warm Sand" --brand "Sparkle" --org "Acme"
Quote hex codes

In bash and zsh an unquoted # starts a comment. Always write "#0A14C8" in quotes, or leave out the # (0A14C8).

3. Add a logo, a font, and the guidelines

branda-cli asset create "Logo" --type image --file logo.svg --brand "Sparkle" --org "Acme"
branda-cli asset create "Brand Font" --type font --file brand.ttf --brand "Sparkle" --org "Acme"
branda-cli asset create "Guidelines" --type pdf --file guidelines.pdf --brand "Sparkle" --org "Acme"
branda-cli asset create "Homepage" --type website_link --url "https://www.example.com" --brand "Sparkle" --org "Acme"

4. Check what you've got

branda-cli asset list --brand "Sparkle" --org "Acme" --table
| Position | Name | Type | Value | Size | Extension | Added | ID |
| -------- | ------------ | ------------ | --------------------- | ------ | --------- | ---------- | -------- |
| 0 | Red | color_rgb | #FF0000 | | | 2026-10-05 | 1B2C3D… |
| 1 | Primary Blue | color_rgb | #0A14C8 | | | 2026-10-05 | 2C3D4E… |
| 2 | Warm Sand | color_cmyk | 20:40:60:10 | | | 2026-10-05 | 3D4E5F… |
| 3 | Logo | image | image/svg+xml | 4.2 KB | SVG | 2026-10-05 | 4E5F6A… |
| … | | | | | | | |

5. Use it from the status bar

  1. Press ⌘⌥B from any app — the Branda popover opens with the search field focused.
  2. Type spa and press Return on Brand: Sparkle. Branda selects the organization and the brand; the right-hand column shows the brand's assets.
  3. Try the everyday moves:
    • Double-click a color to copy its #RRGGBB value.
    • Drag the logo into Keynote, Figma, Mail, or Finder.
    • Select an asset and press Space for a Quick Look preview.
    • Press ⌘⌥⇧B to open the popover pinned, so it stays open while you drag files in and out.

You can of course do all of the above in the menu, too: the + button below each column adds an organization, brand, or asset, and you can drop files from Finder straight onto the asset column.
